Our Instructors
Rachel Leonard is a
movement specialist. Her passion is reaching God's children through recreation,
dance and fitness. As the daughter of a professional ballerina, Rachel's
passion for dance developed at a very young age. She has taught hip hop, jazz,
ballet and "mommy and me” dance classes to people of all ages for many years.
She studied ballet and jazz at the Northeast School of Ballet in Northampton, MA
and taught ballet for 3 years at the New England School of Dance in Westfield,
MA. She has continued her dance training at The Konservatriet and most recently
she has mentored young dancers through the student choreography program at The
Konservatoriet in Alfred. She has taken several Masters Classes and Workshops
to keep her training up to date.
Joy Chase has been taking dance
classes since she was 14, and hip hop is her specialty! Joy graduated from
Living Waters Christian School in 2009, and is currently working at Panera
Bread in Biddeford. At the age of 13, Joy became a student leader at her
church's youth group, and she continues to work there as a youth leader at
the age of 19. Starting in January, Joy will entering college and working
towards her dream to become an elementary school teacher. Joy said,
"To me, dance is such an awesome way to glorify God, and really speak
a loud message! I’m excited to see what God has in store for SonDance this
year!" We are thrilled to have Joy joining us and we know that the
SonDance students will benefit both from her dancing abilities as well as her
great love for the Lord.
Joe Cook loves to dance! His specialty is Hip Hop and Breaking. You
won’t believe anyone can move that many joints! His future plans are to use
dance to evangelize the world. For the past three summers, Joe has toured with
Joshua Generation, a group of high school students who visit various cities
proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ through dance. Joe is also an avid
swimmer and football player and he plays the cello, bass guitar and piano.
Ashley Lowell has been dancing for eight years and teaching for
three. She loves teaching the little ones and is a hip hop enthusiast. Her
dancers love her gentle and fun demeanor. Ashley spends her days as a
cosmetologist at Mane Attraction in Biddeford and she is a published author who
is currently working on her second novel.
Rachel Anastas is going into her sophomore year at
Kennebunk High School. She has been dancing for nine years and
she love dance because it's a great way to express her love for God and
it's relaxing. The Lord is teaching Rachel to take chances and challenges. He's
also teaching her that being in the Word everyday will not only build a
relationship with Him, but also impact how she lives everyday. Rachel
loves being around kids and likes teaching them and having fun with them.
